Final 2D - Fantasy Gestalt :)

For the past 8 weeks, we have done a lot of tasks during 2d fundamentals and we have attained countless experience and skills. we have learnt things like typography, collages, lines and dots, color tones, and many other stuffs. so for our final 2D task we need to make something with fantasy as the theme.

our teacher offers two choices of artwork, one of them is making a fantasy gestalt. Gestalt is present when an artwork can show two different types of point of views within one artwork. because gestalt is quite hard to create, we have one other choice given. we need to make an artwork using the skills we have learnt for the past 8 weeks. we can produce a 1 A2 artwork, 2 A3 artworks, and at most 4 A4 artworks.

after having long discussions and planning with the teacher, i have decided to do a 1 A2 artwork with a combination of gestalt and the things we have learnt so far. in total we are given 3 weeks to do this assignment which is from week 9 to week 11. in week 12 we need to submit all of projects that we have done so far and it will be assessed by our teacher and another one 2D teacher.

FINALLY!
the purpose of my artwork is to promote a movie called "underwater". it is a fictional movie based on my own story :) judging by the title of the movie, it can be seen that this poster will be related to some fantasy sea creatures. and yeah.... it is true. the emphasis of the artwork is in the two mermaids in the middle of the poster and i am going to use watercolors as my media. By arranging the artwork i can create a gestalt of both mermaids shapes and a face of a person. :)

i feel that this task is one of the most challenging task i have done so far in 2D class because it needs to be complex and yet simple. it needs to show emphasis and balance. gestalt is a very unique artwork that somehow appeals to me. and i would like to show my gratefulness to the teacher in charge by applying the things he has taught us up until now ;D i hope i will have the chance to do more exciting assignments just like this one, but it would definitely take so much time ;( but i enjoy it so much! :D adios...!
